I visited a Turkey last year and fell in love with the country and its diverse cultures and influences. I was also impressed with its attempts to promote tolerance, respect, and secular governance. I hope that none of these elements are as under threat as they currently seem. Debate and diversity are pillars of vibrant, contemporary societies, and the supported freedom and safety to teach and discuss a variety of viewpoints is necessary in order to fuel these.
