Erdogan is a fascist with narcissistic tendencies and wishes to consolidate power by dis empowering education in his country. We oppose him in Turkey, Al-Sisi in Egypt, Poroshenko in Ukraine, Le Pen in France, and TRUMP IN USA!!!!!!!!!!

I am revolted that president Erdogan is using the coup to get rid of all of his potential opponents.

I am extremely alarmed at the scapegoating of academics for the attempted military coup. History has shown again and again that no country can flourish when freedom of speech and inquiry are stifled.

This kind of attack on academics specifically and freedom of speech, thought, and intellectual debate and inquiry is completely unacceptable in a 21st-century, civilized nation.

This must not be allowed to go on and is frighteningly reminiscent of 1933 and the purging of jewish and anti-regime professors under Hitler.

Academic freedom is at the base of democracy. We have to be able to conduct research, teach and communicate with our peers. Turkey can only be free if it guarantees academic freedom, detached from politics and subject to academic criteria only.

Education matters just as much to all of our lives as having a democratically elected government. The moment any world government starts thwarting educators and educational goals en masse, we all lose.
