As a former teacher and administrator in a Turkish educational institution, I know bright young students who deserve freedom of thought . Cleansing and brain washing will kill a bright creative future for any country.

I have friends from Turkey in the academic community. We organize an international conference in September and we were expecting them over. What is this interdiction?! Middle Age!

As a professor at the University of California at Berkeley since 1964, I have trained a number of Turkish scholars who went back to Turkey to become important professors and research directors. I myself have lived in Turkey and done linguistic research there. For the sake of Turkey, it is vitally important that freedom of expression and freedom of movement for Turkish academics be preserved. Turkey must remain an active part of the international community of scholars, scientists, and teachers.
