The grossly unwarranted action against Turkish academics is a truly appalling assault on free expression, academic freedom, and democratic principles, not to mention the rule of law.

International cooperation and freedom is vital for science. This is not possible with travel restrictions for academics. Under this circumstances it wil be impossible for Turkish scientist to participate in international cooperations, e.g. EU-funded projects.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling Justice and development party (AKP) should honor the public support for democracy by adhering to democratic standards and upholding the rule of law and human rights rather than undermining them. All the international evidences and witch-hunt to thousands of innocents indicate that this was a "well-planned coup" to help President Erdogan to suppress anyone and everyone who opposes him and his ideas. It may take many more years to reroute Turkey to democracy and to the reforms of European Union. Free media press is now completely disappeared in Turkey.
