Ignoring the significance of the adjustment on the nervous system is a blatant, ignorant disregard of the most up to date research in chiropractic. If you want to move this amazing profession forward, stop holding onto old theories and realize that the vertebral subluxation complex has MASSIVE effects on the nervous system and chiropractors are the only professionals trained in analyzing, detecting, and removing VSC.

How does the MSK system run without the nervous system? How could we just work with muscles and bones when they are inanimate without the most important organ system in the body? Losing the nervous system would be devastating to our profession.

The nerve system is the core of chiropractic practice. The latest research indicates that the adjustment affects the function of the frontal cortex in a positive way. To remove the neural component from chiropractic eviscerates the profession.

Chiropractic has been debased into neck and back crackers (by the insurance industry) and we need to stand together and take back our profession. At the very least, doctors of chiropractic are N+M+S based, but at heart, our training is in whole systems physiology and functional restoration of the broken human system. Further limiting DC's to just M+S based practices literally is not only hurting the profession, but the very public we can - and should - be helping.

We in the chiropractic profession have a moral duty to profess the message of chiropractic to the masses. As Arno states the biggest gift and the power bestowed by a chiropractic adjustment is its impact on the neural communications within the human being. The state of health includes the whole spectrum that is meant by the term 'human being'. For example, some of us believe "I am only human". Others feel and know that 'I am a spiritual energetic being here on planet Earth to have a human experience'. The challenge faced by all chiropractors is understanding this spectrum or continuum of consciousness within the human species.
D.D. Palmer clearly stated that the purpose of adjustment is the re-connection of spiritual and physical. The nervous system performs this function in the human form. It is in fact our mission to deliver the whole message of healing contained in the chiropractic model we have both the responsibility and privilege to practice. We must be compassionate with our colleagues while simultaneously leading courageously by living example. "A leaders knows the way, shows the way and goes the way."

After 40 years in practice it is clear that chiropractic adjustment have a marked and significant effect on the neurology of the human body and its physiology. It is a travesty to rob the public of the benefits of chiropractic by marketing it as a musculoskeletal discipline dealing with back and neck problem.

The key differentiator of chiropractic as compared to other modalities is the interest of neurology as it relates to the MSK system and its greater affects on human health and potential. By leaving this out of our language and explanation, we loose our purpose of what we do and our need in the market.

Removing neurology from the definition of what we do is reducing Chiropractic to the treatment of muscular complaints and positioning us at the same level as any other professional who "treats" MSK complaints. Keep what keeps us separate & distinct (neurology) within the definition of our profession.

As a 20 year practicing chiropractor I feel like we would be cheating the general public and our patients by focusing only on MSK and not telling them about all the other benefits of a properly functionning nervous system on overall health and well-being.

If you want to focus on the MSK that's ok with me, BUT... If I'm paying my fee my views better be represented as well.
