February 18, 1998 the day the music died at Wrigley Field. At least the tradition died, or should have. Unfortunately for us Cubs fans that is not the case. The Cubs organization has kept this tradition alive and unwell. We have been over exposed to what seems a never ending stream of Hollyweird bottom feeders, clueless personalities and wannabe "celebrities", invited to be guest conductors to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch. Who can ever forget Ozzie's unique rendition or Jeff Gordon not knowing the name of the building? And the words to the song? Who cares.

All of that is tolerable. What isn't, is the droning, self serving drivel spewed by these guests in both the radio and television booths, at the expense of the action on the field. To compound this egregiousness, neither broadcast team is adept at interviewing non-baseball "personages". It is time for this travesty, at least in its current form to end.

Certainly there have been some guest conductors that were quite good. They, however are few and far between.

There is a new culture at 1060 W Addison. Winning baseball! Change is in the air at Wrigley and throughout the entire organization. Please Mr Ricketts, this Wrigley renovation doesn't cost a dime.
