A year or two ago, Disney has announced a slate of their classic films that they'd be re-releasing to theaters in 3D after the successful re-release of The Lion King back in 2011. The films in the slate included the following in their respective order: Beauty and the Beast (1991) (January 2012) Finding Nemo (2003) (September 2012) Monsters, Inc. (2001) (December 2012) The Little Mermaid (1989) (September 2013) Unfortunately, because the former three performed below expectations financially, The Little Mermaid's 3D re-release has been cancelled. To anyone who was hoping to see the movie in theaters once again (or for the first time, in the case of anyone who has never gotten the chance to see it in its theatrical 1989 or 1997 releases), this is why I make this petition, to show Disney that just giving us a Blu-ray home video release isn't going to make us feel better. So spread the word so that we can tell Disney that we WANT The Little Mermaid to be re-released in theaters this year!
