The challenges of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic have propelled us into a paradigm where digital content creation is not just an option, but a necessity. Since the onset of the pandemic in March, organizations, agencies, and institutions across the spectrum of the public humanities have had to quickly adapt to a reality that doesn't include in-person public programming. As AFS President, Jake Rosenberg (City Lore) will introduce new, precarious, and marginalized voices to our field, and approaches to creating virtual content and considering emerging technologies and strategies that will be relevant for the next five years.

The pandemic has hastened the digitization of folklore, oral traditions, and material culture/craftsmanship. Jake has extensive experience at the cross-section of new media and folklore, making him the best candidate for the job.
Jake would be a great AFS president. I feel he would push the organization and the field towards embracing our new cultural moment through innovation and forward-thinking strategies.

I am for the nomination for the purposes of using it as a platform to speak about important issues effecting folklorists in marginal and precarious positions within our organization.
