We all love and strive to protect Selby Gardens. The proposed master plan is misguided at best. It’s indisputable that Marie Selby made the generous donation of the gardens to the city in opposition of high rise development.

This little gem of a garden was meant to be just that. We have new entertainment/dining/catering venues being constructed each year in the city. We don’t have botanical gardens being developed. Respect the Gardens’ history, preserve it for us and for the future.

I have fond memories of a family wedding held at Shelby Gardens. The peaceful tranquility and beautiful surroundings enhanced our blessed occasion. There are enough ticky-tacky commercialized areas in Florida to attract and entertain our tourists. Please, let’s retain and maintain the few beautiful, natural areas that remain. We should defer to the intentions of the original benefactor, and with respect and common sense, rule out this move toward “progress!” We would be erasing, not enhancing, this beautiful garden setting!
