To whom it may concern,
We the residents of The Coast Baldoyle Dublin 13 are a young, honest, family filled and hard working community. We take pride in our neighbourhood and its appearance. We each pay significant management fees to ensure our estate is kept tidy and well maintained to reflect the type of people who live here. For six years we have patiently waited for the area to be completed or for finishing touches to be completed until work recommences . It has become apparent that if we do not take action ourselves we will not get results. The Coast is a great place to live but the impact of the building sites in both Red Arches and Myrtle is unacceptable. The sites are oversized and impose on the estates causing dangers and untidiness. The remaining phases of construction will not be completed in the foreseeable future and we cannot be expected to patiently live with hoarding and oversized building sites until such a time. As stated the residents have been very fair and patient until this point but now it is time for action. If you are in agreement please read on.
This petition along with documented pictures of The Coast and before and after pictures of comparable North Fringe developments which have been improved under Dublin City Council will be presented to Fingal County Council to be addressed at the next available council meeting.
The desired outcome of the petition would be;
A. Significant reduction to the boundaries of the building sites.
B. Create much needed parking spaces.
C. Create much needed pathways for buggies and children in particular.
D. Create additional green spaces for children.
E. Erect perimeter fencing and planting rather than hoarding.
The above has already been carried out in surrounding north fringe areas Clongriffin, Bellmayne, St Samson’s and Balgriffin Cottages. So why is The Coast not receiving the same treatment?
We want Fingal County Council to help us get action for the following reasons..
Red Arches site and derelict building.The hoarding provides cover for children playing in the site and the derelict building.This is an extreme hazard. Pictures documenting the extent of this issue have been taken As this building will never be completed we feel that it should be knocked and returned to a green field site. This is seperately being put to Fingal CC. In the meantime the site boundary must be reduced. The hoarding must be replaced by perimeter fencing. Internal fencing has been erected over the last few weeks. Children were seen climbing over the internal site fencing on the 19th Jan 2013. Therefore internal fencing alone has not worked to deter children. If the hoarding were removed and the perimeter pushed back the security team could conduct better surveillance.
Red Arches. The perimeter is too close to the road. This causes two dangers. Firstly when exiting Red Arches Park onto Red Arches Road a driver's vision is significantly impaired. Secondly when driving down Red Arches road a driver would not be able to see pedestrians, cyclists, children or buggies exiting the cycle path or Red Arches Park. As people tend to drive at speed on Red Arches Road this is an extreme hazard. The boundaries need to be pushed back and path should be created to link the cycle path to the remainder of the estate.
Secluded areas. The link road between Red Arches and Myrtle and also the road to the Dart station in Myrtle are dangerously secluded in the evening time. Not what we want on dark winter evenings for women and young children. If the site boundaries were pushed back/narrow areas widened and the hoarding replaced with perimeter fencing this would not be the case.
Parking. Residents are being clamped in their own estate due to lack of parking. The site boundary for the derelict site in Red Arches should be pushed back to create parking on Red Arches Park and Red Arches Road. The site boundary on Myrtle Avenue desperately needs to be pushed back to create parking and a footpath. This has become a one lane road due to residents being forced to park on the half of the road by the hoarding. This means cars have to reverse back dangerously around corners if a car comes the other direction. Also as there is no path on the hoarding side for people walking to and from the dart station. This exacerbates the problem to motorists as people walk on the road. In both Red Arches and Myrtle there is a huge scope to push the perimeters back significantly as the areas behind are clear and unused.
Graffiti. The hoarding throughout the Coast is becoming littered with Graffiti. This would not be the case if perimeter fencing replaced the hoarding. Pictures documenting the extent of this issue have been taken. The residents of the coast pay substantial management fees each year to ensure our neighbourhood is well maintained. The graffitti and bad cover up jobs are unacceptable
Weather damage. The hoarding is becoming damp and weather beaten. The paint is stripping off and the looks very unsightly. In many areas parts of the hoarding are slumping and falling off. The residents in the coast who take pride in their area shouldn’t have to live with these conditions. Some years ago the majority of the hoarding on Red Arches Road blew down in bad weather. Luckily no cars, pedestrians or children were injured.  As the hoarding is becoming damp the same danger now exists.Pictures documenting the extent of this issue have been taken.
In summary it is unacceptable that a young, family filled, hard working community has had to live with substandard site maintenance for the last six years, we will not be accepting this for the next six years.

Please sign the petition and get the improvements our community deserves.
