I've been inspired reading about this man - embarrassed that I'd not heard of him before. His army of fans have now passed on but as we look back on WW1 - seen through today's eyes - surely 'today's establishment' should recognise what he did for war-time morale both at the Front and with the home fires. I recommend reading Bullets & Billets.

Bairnsfather was one of the most important factors in morale during the Great War, and indeed even during the Second. That he has been recognised only by 3, privately funded plaques, is a wrong, easily righted, by an official public statement of his contribution in these, the centenary years of the Great Waf

The value of Captain Barnfather`s contribution to England`s war efforts have not been recognised for far too long.

Bruce Bairnsfather directed "Carry on Sergeant!" one of the biggest and most influential movies in Canadian history. Though the film was a finacial "failure", Bairnsfather's vision for an independent Canadian film industry lives on. His drive, enthusiasm, humour and imagination born in his WW1 cartoons "carried on" in this unique and momentous endevour in his later life.

Humour in adversity is a potent force for morale and Bairnfather's cartoons and his contribution does deserve some official recognition, though I wonder what Old Bill would say to that.

A man such as he should be recognized - he did more for the british troops alone than most of England combined
