Urgent Call to Action
We strongly urge TxDOT to immediately revise the current IH‑35 / I‑14 plan. Belton deserves infrastructure improvements that strengthen our community not ones that threaten its future. The proposed plan would eliminate the Mainstreet, Central Street, and 6th Street exits, putting Belton at risk of the same significant and devastating decline seen in other Texas cities where bypasses were built, such as Troy, Hillsboro, and Hearne.
Key Concerns
- Economic Impact: Belton stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity over the next decade, including lost growth revenue, reduced sales tax, small business closures, and declining property values.
- City Services: The loss of sales and property tax revenue will directly affect funding for essential services like police, fire, and parks.
- Future Investment: The plan discourages future investment and stunts long-term growth. Responsible development is crucial for a prosperous future and for maintaining vital infrastructure.
- Safety: Emergency response times will increase especially in South Belton, when every minute counts.
- Quality of Life: Traffic congestion is already a major issue and will worsen as residents are forced to use fewer accessible routes, lowering the overall quality of life.
Our Requests
- A revised plan that protects Belton’s economy, ensures resident safety during emergencies, improves quality of life, and keeps Belton connected.
- Genuine collaboration with residents, businesses, and city leadership.
