"Robert Aickman has a following. His work may never feature on bestseller lists but try mentioning his "strange tales" and see how many people you know are fans." A petition to bring back The "Night Voices" TV series, based on Robert Aickman's cult short stories. In 1987 HTV filmed a series called "Night Voices". Four episodes were based on the late Robert Aickman's short stories ("The Hospice", "The Swords", "The Trains" and "Hand in Glove"). To our knowledge they have not aired since 1993 (and then on cable TV). Having tracked down a master tape of "The Hospice" (starring Jack Shepherd and Alan Dobie), we, the undersigned, hope that "The Hospice" and any other of the other Aickman films still in existence, can be made available to Robert Aickman's dedicated and growing fan base (one of his best known fans is Jeremy Dyson of "The League of Gentlemen" and "Ghost Stories"). We would welcome selected screenings and transfer to DVD for purchase and viewing at home. Jeremy Dyson supports this request, and last year recorded "The Unsettled Dust: The Strange Stories of Robert Aickman" for Radio 4. Dyson argues that Aickman's stories should receive greater recognition for their contribution to literature. The Radio Times said of Dyson's programme (which you can follow for repeat broadcasts on the Radio Times website): "Robert Aickman has a following. His work may never feature on bestseller lists but try mentioning his "strange tales" and see how many people you know are fans. The League of Gentlemen's Jeremy Dyson believes Aickman deserves greater recognition for his sinister, supernatural stories."
