A lot of times do people read a headline titled, "Black women killed" or "Black man shot", and immediately assumptions are made. Of those assumptions are " they deserved it," by those who may have a biased opinions about Black Americans. I have created this petition with the intent of showing journalist and news broadcasters that race belittles the identity of a person and subjects the race to a statistic. By signing this petition, you are aware of the current way minority deaths are publicized and want a change. I am suggesting journalist and news broadcasters ONLY release articles with names of the individuals whose lives are lost, or even initials if their families wish to remain private. By providing their name, and not their race, we are valuing their identity and removing bias from the readers. This petition will not change the current status of the media but it will bring this issue some attention and could potentially lead to some changes.
