Dear Dean Subject: High text book prices We, the undersigned Students, are writing to express our concern with the high prices of textbooks and to respectfully request that you take steps to help us by reducing the burden of expensive text books. One of the main reasons why the textbook prices are continuing to rise is the fact that professors choose textbooks irrespective of its price! We students then have no option but to buy the textbooks recommended by our Professors. We would like you to communicate the issue with the faculty members and educate them on how they can help reduce the burden of text book prices on us. For example here are a few ways in which the faculty can reduce the burden of expensive textbooks on us students. 1) Prescribe free online text books where possible or less expensive online text books. 2) Work with a syllabus leaving students to decide where to get the content enabling students to source their own text books. 3) Be flexible on which edition of the text book student use even if they follow a particular text book. 4) Negotiate with the publishers to reprint old editions even if they introduce a new edition. 5) Be aware of the price of the textbooks and consider the hidden costs before choosing a textbook.
