On the evening of May 19th, the Texas Speaker of the House, Dade Phelan carried out his duties while intoxicated.

In case you have not seen it, here is Phelan on that night: https://twitter.com/sewellchan/status/1661165375235543043

Attorney General Ken Paxton is calling for Dade Phelan to resign with the following statements:

"After much consideration, it is with profound disappointment that I call on Speaker Dade Phelan to resign at the end of this legislative session. Texans were dismayed to witness his performance presiding over the Texas House in a state of apparent debilitating intoxication. His conduct has negatively impacted the legislative process and constitutes a failure to live up to his duty to the public,” Paxton said in a statement.

“Texans were relying on the House to pass critical conservative priorities including protecting the integrity of our elections and preventing Chinese spies from controlling Texas land. His failures as Speaker have created a credibility crisis for all Republican candidates and for our entire Party. While I hope Speaker Phelan will get the help he needs, he has proven himself unworthy of Texans’ trust and incapable of leading the Texas House,” the Texas Attorney General added."

As citizens of Texas, we support Paxton's statement and call on Speaker Phelan to resign!

Dade Phelan thinks we are too distracted to notice his pathetic performance on the House floor. We are tracking every move he makes and the pressure is building because Texans refuse to accept a drunkard leading the chamber.

Even though I've heard from credible sources that it's not at all unusual for our legislators to drink at lunch, drinking to the point of intoxication is outrageous and if any other citizen did this before returning to work they would almost certainly be fired immediately.

Phelan is a disgrace to the Republican Party . He If he were a real Republican he would resign, but he isn't so he want. What a shame!

Aren't we all tired of the Speaker blocking priority legislation while the Senate does their job well?

We have been watching the deliberate and willful attempts to kill good legislation in committee and otherwise. More for his ineptitude to promote needful and decent legislation than for his inebriation.

There are FAR TOO MANY reasons that Phelan should resign, but good grief. He can't handle doing the People's business without being sauced? SHAMELESS.

Speaker Phelan should resign. Phelan's behavior as the leader of the Texas House of Representatives is inexcusable and disappointing.
