The school board has officially rescinded the plan to cut bus routes in Maple Lawn. We will monitor the upcoming budget cycle to ensure these services remain fully funded and operational.

Many children in Maple Lawn will no longer have bus service to FES, LKMS and RHS. Bus service is being eliminated from virtually all of Midtown West and parts of the Garden District and Midtown. The students going to FES will be walking approximately a mile, and therefore they will most likely become car riders due to their age or the late start of school (hard for working parents to walk home at 9:45 and get to work) or during any cold or rainy weather.
Even if your elementary school aged child is not directly impacted by the elimination of buses, you still may lose access to buses in middle and high school due to the shorter distances to the middle and high schools.
In addition to a lengthy drop-off and pick-up process, the car line at Fulton is extremely small and dangerous. Fulton is the largest ES in the county, at 121% capacity; ill equipped to safely manage the significant influx of cars that can be expected with this change. If you are interested in retaining bus service until our overcrowded school situation is resolved, please sign the petition.

The volume of support has secured a formal meeting with the school board representative for next week. I am currently preparing a briefing document that outlines the specific safety risks at the Fulton car loop to present during this discussion.

11660 Federal Street. I’m not directly impacted by the change in bus service, but I am very concerned with the safety and logistics of an already overly crowded car line that will be OVERWHELMED by this loss of bus service to so many families. I’m also concerned for the faculty and staff of the school trying to manage this drastic change.
11615 Federal St, Fulton, MD 20759 I walked from my front door to FES yesterday, 41 minutes round trip as an adult. Previously the bus stop was 1 minute from our house. This will greatly complicate logistics when our two kids eventually start at FES in future school years.
My address is 11313 Liberty. My sons attend LKMS and RHS and need to carry band instruments to school every day. They were both bus riders and with this new boundary, they are to be walkers in 2019-2020.
Many years ago, I called HCPSS for similar issue when my son got into HS and there was no bus for him. The director of transportation came to my place and I showed him how unsafe it is to walk from Iager Blvd to RHS but he did nothing. It’s all about cost saving and unfortunately safety comes last. I am against removal of busses. It’s unclear how my kindergartener is supposed to walk to school by herself. This almost forces me to pay for before and after school care, which is booked up. . If a few others on my street have to pay the same we could cover the cost of one school bus. How can you do this 3 weeks prior to school starting when the before and after care fills up in November.
I agree that school bus service should be restored

My 5 years old just attended kindergarten. I can’t imagine a 5 years old walks during winter time for 30+ mins each way. She is very tired after a long day. And both parents need to go to work early in the morning. My house is on dairy street.
