Many of the members of the Oakwood Manor Homeowners Association would like to see this question addressed by placing it on the agenda for a vote at the Annual General Meeting in January of 2023.

Is it better to have a board dominated by members who have the opportunity to serve in perpetuity or one that provides more opportunities for those with fresh ideas and diverse experiences to serve? Board members who are willing to serve and work together to govern our budget and address our needs are invaluable: just how long board members serve is a matter for discussion. We believe it is time to have that discussion.

When you always have the same people or a particular person on the board, there can be the impression that things are being run for the benefit of a small group of people as opposed to the good of all. By having, encouraging, or requiring board turnover, we might have more openness and more people involved in the association's governance.

It has been clear over the past few years that there are a number of qualified and willing Oakwood members who would love to serve on the board. One of the problems they face is very much like real politics. It is hard to remove an incumbent that does not want to leave. I By amending Article 4 - Directors, we will open up more opportunities for people to serve by setting term limits for board members.

Our proposal is as follows: Please sign the petition to add this question to the agenda of the Annual Meeting of the Oakwood Manor Homeowners Association. Should we amend Article 4?

To Amend Article 4 – Directors.

  1. Term of Directors

Currently reads: Directors shall serve staggered three (3) year terms of office with 3 directors being elected every year. All Directors shall serve until their respective successors have been duly elected and qualified, or until their earlier resignation or removal. A Director's term of office begins immediately following the announcement of the results of the election.

We propose an additional sentence be added that would read:

A director may serve no more than two (2) Consecutive, three (3) year terms in office.

If you agree and feel that this important issue should be added to the 2023 Agenda,

please, have one member of your household sign our petition and include your Lot Number.

( Let's keep the Lawyer types happy)

We need a minimum of 130 Member votes (20%) to have this item added to the agenda.
