Monterey tennis courts, which are public courts and part of the city parks system, should be available to the public, even for pickleball!

Tennis players who have used the Via Paraiso Park tennis courts in Monterey have petitioned the Monterey Parks and Rec board to DISALLOW pickleball on the courts or any other form of multi-use of the public courts.

Pickleball started in the Via Paraiso park tennis courts through the acceptance of a Neighborhood Improvement Project in Monterey in September, 2016. The city then began painting Pickleball court lines on the 2 tennis courts in the park. Because of weather conditions, they only completed painting one of the courts in Fall, 2016. The other was to be completed in the Spring, 2017.

Now, tennis players have objected to the courts having additional lines on their courts and have stated that they CANNOT play because of the pickleball lines. So they are insisting that the city REMOVE THE LINES AND PROHIBIT PICKLEBALL ON TENNIS COURTS.

Please sign this petition supporting multi use of the tennis courts and a system where everyone shares the courts. Pickleball is scheduled in only 12.5 hours of the 70+ daylight hours available each week on the courts. As pickleballers, we only want to share the space. Tennis players use the courts for less than 20 hours a week. And most serious tennis players use the private courts in this area of California. We should be able to share these public courts. Help us do this by signing this petition which we will present to the Monterey City Parks and Recreation Board on March 16.Sign soon. PICKLEBALLERS UNITE
