New Old Mill Building - change in structure!
As tenants of Old Mill I and II, we recently received some new information regarding the Old Mill IV building structure which is planned for construction within the next year. We have been aware of the intentions of Beckstrand & Associates to build another building once the parking structure is complete - - but we have been unaware that this new building is proposed to be a twelve story structure! We have the following concerns: 1. Traffic congestion will get increasingly worse - - and is a public safety issue of prime concern to Old Mill I and II tenants and employees. We've heard that the city is considering adding one additional left turn lane on 3000 east if the structure is built. Exiting northbound onto 3000 east is already a challenge; that additional lane is needed now! In addition, we have significant concerns over the clean air issues that also result from increased traffic and congestion. 2. A 12 story building will, of course, double the number of tenants on this campus and may eventually create another challenge with available parking. We do not look forward to the possibility of again facing that challenge in the future. 3. The aesthetics of the Old Mill business park in relation to the surrounding communities is also of prime concern. There are now a significant number of corporate buildings in the Cottonwood Heights area and such excessive development is erasing the beautiful green space that once made this area such prime property. As a group of businesses that are located in the center of suburbia, we do carry some responsibility for the corporate footprint left on this community. For existing tenants and residents in surrounding communities, such a tall building will virtually eliminate the beautiful view of the valley looking westward. We would assume that the overall impact of such a large building could have a significant impact on home values in those same communities. 4. The construction of such a large building will require employees of Old Mill I and II to again face more construction issues over the long term - - as a building of this size will take considerably more time to build. We have listened to numerous employee complaints about the construction - - from concrete water drippings on their cars - - to numerous flat tires - - to unreasonable access issues. If you also have concerns over this construction, please join us in adding your name to the list of tenant employees who are against the construction of an Old Mill IV twelve story structure. Thank you for your support!
