The following is the abstract from the proposed bill:
Provides that the law concerning concussions and head injuries applies to student athletes in grades 5 through 12 who participate in interscholastic or intramural sports. (Current law provides that the law concerning concussions and head injuries applies to high school student athletes.) Requires all coaches and assistant coaches of student athletes and coaches and assistant coaches who coach football to individuals who are less than 20 years of age to complete certain certified coaching education courses. (Current law requires coaches and assistant coaches who coach football to individuals who are less than 20 years of age to complete certain certifiedcoaching education courses.)

The people holding power at the Statehouse are still pretending that middle schoolers are somehow immune to brain injuries. They are choosing to ignore the basic safety of our kids to protect their own comfortable status quo.

The momentum we have built proves that parents are sick of the state ignoring the safety of our younger students. The legislature needs to stop stalling and extend these basic concussion protections to every child on the field right now.

My son plays middle school soccer and these hits are getting way too dangerous. About time someone looked out for the younger kids too.
Common sense legislation. Concussions don't stop at high school so neither should the safety rules.
PLEASE PROTECT THE KIDS. THIS IS SO OVERDUE!!! my daughter had a concussion in 7th grade and the school didnt know what to do.
Get this passed already. Kids are kids no matter what grade they are in.
Cheerleading is a sport and needs these protections just as much as football does. Thanks for taking this on.
I'm in agreement with this proposed Bill to protect our children.

This is an important issue that requires the attention and education of students, athletes, teachers, parents, and anyone who works with this population.
