Sign the Bills Establishing Water Authorities for the North and South Shores of Long Island
As stated by your predecessor: "For far too long, the 120,000 customers of New York American Water on Long Island have been plagued by exorbitantly high rates for water — this simply cannot continue," former Governor Cuomo said in a statement. "...New Yorkers deserve access to clean, safe and affordable water and we are going to pursue every avenue to make that happen."
Acting upon the recommendations from Governor Cuomo's Feasibility Study, our state representatives passed legislation establishing water authorities for the north and south shores to take over New York American Water's Long Island operations.
All Governor Hochul needs to do is sign the two bills sitting in Albany and like 96% of New York residents, clean, affordable public water will be ours.

Our water bills through New York American water are extraordinarily high. Please do everything you can to rectify the situation. As a retired senior citizen living on a fixed income it has becomes more and more difficult each billing period to pay for my water usage.
Water in the east is plentiful... and shouldn't cost so much -- it NEVER should've been PRIVATIZED -- and it's solely greed that allowed American Water to charge it's captive customers to have to pay 3x as much as their neighbors in the next zip code [outside of American Water's grafted monopoly]!
It’s extremely unfair how our rates have increased exams we can’t even drink the tap water. We’ve had to pay for water filtrate systems for the house and not receive any money back from NYAM. It’s a disgrace to raise rates to double my bill.
I live in Massapequa and fall under NY Water and not Massapequa Water District. I pay three times what others in my town pay. This needs to stop. Access to affordable, clean water should be a right, not a privilege, or based on arbitrary boundaries.
Take over the water company. When I moved into my house 16 yrs ago it was $25 or a little less a month. Before the take over it was around $40. Last month it was $243
WE want public water. ,a God given element not an expensive assessment
If you want the people's vote for governor, you should start helping the people.

Veteran advocacy orgs such as VEDI stand behind these bills and urge their signing ASAP. Protect all taxpayers and level the field for all rate payers!
