For years now, I've had an idea in my head that I didn't think would ever come to fruition. It still may never come to fruition, but I'll never know unless I put it in front of as many faces as possible!

I want the epic, non RTS, Starcraft experience that I have and I'm sure many others have also dreamed of!

What do I mean?

  • Similar to Planetside 2: 3 factions, large scale war, everything from the zerglings to the motherships are controlled by players.
  • Different from Planetside 2: More dynamic, no 4 hour stalemates, rare high value weapons like ultralisks or battlecruisers to shatter defenses.
  • Faction heavily dictates game feel: The Starcraft universe is very well set up for this already. I want to feel scared as hell if I get separated from my marine squad! Zerg players should see the map as their playground. Protoss should fight confidently with their shields up but panic if they get EMPed.
  • Someone needs to win, often: My main beef with not only Planetside 2, but really any game that has tried to do a large scale war game, is that the player feels worthless. A possible solution for this is make the scenario winnable. There is only 1 nexus, command center and lair. Once the other 2 are destroyed, one race is victorious! Each player in the game is given their coins/reward and the winning side receives a bonus reward. By increasing unit resources, ie more ultralisks, as each match progresses, huge power shifts can occur which force an end to the match without putting a timer on it. Ideally I think matches should be 1 - 2 hours long.
  • No OP progression: This section is quite long but bear with me. This is a very tough one because you want the player to have feasible goals to strive for BUT you don't want a new player to feel hopeless. On top of that, there are very obvious limitations on how you could progress each unit from each faction in a permanent way. A marine can get a better gun, wonderful. A zergling can get faster, also great. However now at minute 1 you have 2 players that are by default better than everyone else. Also with a permanent upgrade system, either each upgrade would be underwhelming or new players would be exponentially fucked. One possible solution is to have many high impact temporary upgrades which reset with each match as well as permanent cosmetic unlocks that do not impact game play.

I'll end the list there in an attempt to not make this too intimidating to read.

For the last bit I'll just give a little example of things I want to see on the battlefield.

Everything is bright blue as you wait to warp to the forward pylon. You finally see the battlefield as your hands materialize. You turn on your psi blades and see that you're accompanied by 5 other zealots. With a quiet order, the commander leads the group toward the terran mining station, making sure to stay concealed. As you approach the clear cut area of the mining station, you each take cover behind thick trees. You can hear gunshots from the station as the marines defend themselves against the zerg aggression. You peer around the tree, tanks stationed all along the hill, can't move forward until the immortal arrives. BANG. Shields are out. Ghost shot you in the head. You manage to get behind the tree but more sniper shots fly past you now. The group is spotted, you have only moments before the tanks line their shot. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. There it is. You activate your sprint boots but you know it's too late. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM....... . ? You should be dead. Also only 3 tanks fired. You turn around and see the dust clear as an immortal towers above you. Its shield bright blue from the tank shots. About time that dropship showed up. You charge with the other zealots under the immortal's shield. Scarabs fly past you and destroy the unprepared tanks. You finally reach the marine line and plow into them, cutting them down with ease. The station will soon be in flames. Adun Toridas and all that jazz. But then, the ground erupts behind you as an ultralisk emerges through a reaver! Through the giant psi explosion, it lets out a deafening roar. You had a feeling things werent going to be that easy...

I'm probably crap at story time but I thought I'd include that to give people a feel for it. If you want to see something like this, LET'S TELL BLIZZARD and hope for the best. The signature goal is however many possible but 1,000 is a nice number so that can be the goal.
