根據地塘仔村民所述，盜伐土沉香在三年前已開始，但由於村民未有警覺嚴重性，所以未有向任何政府部門舉報。一年多前村民曾向漁護署反映事件，但漁護署只作一般巡視，未有任何跟進，亦未作統計土沉香被盜伐的數量。
直至今年(2011)年4月，村民向大澳環境及發展關注協會執行幹事何佩嫻舉報有關事件，始察覺事情的嚴重性，地塘仔附近一帶山林的土沉香已所餘無幾，瀕臨滅絕．初步點算視察範圍，被斫伐的土沉香超過一百棵，尚有大範圍未被視察的山林，相信被砍土沉香的數量是頗多的。
由報警到目前，村民仍每天都有發現新斫伐的沉香樹，而警方每次只逗留一會巡視，根本對杜絕事件沒有很大幫助。
我們促請有關當局高度重視此事，加強在當地的巡查，我們亦知會環保團體及立法會議員跟進。希望在該區沉香樹未被滅絕前，警方能採取有效的行動杜絕事件。

I have been in touch with several legislative councillors to force a response from the authorities regarding the continued destruction of our trees. Call your local representative today to demand that they prioritize this investigation. We need to keep the pressure on the Agriculture and Fisheries Department until they commit to real enforcement patrols.
