Background (Preamble):
Kids and Young Adults have been excluded from the choices the government is making for them. An example is that the Indiana Department of Education has outlawed half days to Indiana schools. The teens of Indiana schools want to address this issue because we were not asked if we wanted this. One student said:
As a student, I work very hard during the school year. Half days haven't created a problem in the past and I believe it's unfair to take away the few school days of the year that give students a break from a stressful atmosphere

They took them without asking any of us. Our government is supposed to be by the people, for the people, and of the people. Right now, teens have no control of what the government is doing for them. This petition is not about getting out half days back. It's about getting our rights as an American citizen back.
Petition:
We ask that the state let teens help make decisions that affect them. And we want our half days back!
I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly the stories about how drained everyone feels are just heartbreaking. It feels like they completely forgot we are the ones actually sitting in those desks all day every day despite acting like they know what is best for us. I am drafting a list of points to bring up when I finally get someone on the phone because ignoring us just because we are young is not a valid policy strategy.

I was just staring at the screen and honestly it is overwhelming to think about how many of you are actually paying attention to this. I keep scrolling through the comments and seeing people say exactly what I feel which is just wild because I started this sitting in my room feeling like no one would ever care.

Finally someone said it. The adults making these calls have no idea what it is like to be a teen today.

WE ARE THE ONES SITTING IN THE DESKS. Stop making rules about our lives without asking what we think.

School is already way too stressful. Taking away half days is just cruel. Listen to the students for once!

Give us back our half days. They were the only thing getting me through finals week honestly.

Maybe if the people in charge actually stepped foot in a classroom they would see why we need these breaks. It keeps us from burning out.
