My sister, mother & Grandpa are or were teachers. I am sick of the utterly clapped-out, unreflected, irresponsible, monotone public discourse about teaching & the culture of egregious, derelict political cowardice that slavishly responds to it because no-one in this country is prepared to even admit that parents have a responsibility to their children to foster a learning environment & politicians have a responsibility to listen to the views of the people doing the actual tea aching before considering whether & what policy changes might improve the education system. What a pathetic shower. Shame on them all.
When the entire country depens on the quality of its teachers, how is it that they are so undervalued?

The country will pay a heavy price for the party politicisation of education. Governments which choose not only to ignore but to denigrate the skills and work of those who have chosen teaching as their life's work and contribution to society are condemned to rely on a philistine, automated and soulless system which will produce ill-natured and uncreative citizens, ill-equipped to lead fulfilling lives. Never was there such denigration of political responsibility!

Teachers should be praised and appreciated for what they do, not constantly criticised. All politicians working in education should actually spend time in schools seeing what teachers do and seeing how much work they do at home before they judge.

Show me just one area of public life where political meddling has improved things! Politicians have short-term aims (such as being re-elected to their gravy-train existences) whereas education is a life-time exercise. Good teachers develop children over decades, and, left to themselves, produce good citizens. I wonder just how well Plato would have been 'improved' by Osted!

Fed up with politicians and the press making political capital out of children's lives.
