One important lesson I learnt fro the 20 year as CoG of a ninner city PS was the the teaching profession was all about short working week and long holidays is a myth - go into any school well before 9 am and after 3pm you will find tthem still at work .if the Government wants quality education denigrating teacher will drive teacher away from the profession - strange you don't get the anti teacher rhetoric directed to the private sector or even free schools. n

I'm a retired teacher & environmental educator; my wife is a retired SEN teacher. I hope an overwhelming majority of active teachers, former-teachers, educationalists and relevant academics will firmly get behind this movement, along with supportive parents & concerned individuals from other walks of life. Of course, we all need to ‘roar’ loudly in defence of the needs of pupils/students and of a suitable ‘curriculum for life’ – but there are much wider issues at stake here too. During recent decades the exponents of neoliberal capitalism have successfully plotted and engineered the denigration and subjugation of so many working folk in so many areas of employment. Now they are coming after the ‘professions’; just ask the junior doctors. Trades unions (and representative, professional bodies) are being made impotent; hard-won employment rights are eroding fast; fair and meaningful consultations over changes to working practices have largely disappeared. Employed individuals are required to be compliant, insecure drones rather than respected contributors to a fair-minded, balanced and cooperative society. And, all the while, the ‘income-gap’ widens as more and more of our mutual wealth is ‘creamed off’ by a tiny minority of greedy control-freaks. They’ve worked out what will be at stake in a future world of dwindling resources: only the powerful will thrive. If they must be ruthless to maintain power they will not hesitate. Unfortunately, they can count on the support of much of the popular print & broadcast media – at least for now. New & powerful grass-roots movements, of which this could be one, may be the only hope we have of redressing and rebalancing these disturbing developments; and clearly, such movements can only succeed if overwhelming support is mobilised, in an intelligent and well coordinated manner, from the entire working population. By all means “pledge to fight for a better, fairer education system” but, at the same time, please pledge to fight

The obvious plan by the Ideologically driven Tory party in Gov is to Privatise ALL public services. This has to stop now. The Teachers are the backbone of our society and teach the future leaders so we have to support them as we are the Junior Doctors. Dont let Businessmen through the Academy system take over our schools and put more pressure on OUR Teachers.

This Petition is not tough enough; you're way too nice; nice guys finish LAST!!!! THEY'LL LAUGH AT YOU. You should be attacking the effing UNIONS too! Get members to withhold a months subscriptions to begin with; watch them jump/squirm. They are useless; only good for helping with Capability.

I am an Sen teaching assistant and it's exhausting continuously trying to help undo the harm that this government is doing to our children. They are being failed and left behind. There is no real opposition to stop the welfare and education cuts. The future looks incredibly grim.

Children are entitled to a wholly rounded education which takes into account creativity sporting ability as well as academic ability. Children progress at different rates and excel in different areas..STOP this continual testing and allow teachers to teach!

As a teacher I feel we are between a rock and a hard place. Persuading kids to be ambitious and go for University places when the government takes away their support by killing maintenance grants. I reallly feel like giving up and moving to a country which supports education in a positive manner.

I want my grandchildren to have the educational opportunities I had in the 50s and 60s. At the moment they seem to be preparing for one lot of tests after the other.
