We're trying to get as many signatures as possible to keep TBRC open for medical student access during off hours (after 5pm and on weekends). We realize that TBRC is reserved for research staff and graduate students, and the environment has been often hostile towards medical students. However, group-study spaces are very limited on campus. Library conference rooms and nerd rooms fill up quickly (especially during exams), CMUTS may not be ideal for groups of students as sound tends to travel between the rooms, hallways/common areas/cafeteria may be too loud for studying, or you may disrupt other students who are engaged in quiet study in the common areas. Moreover, medical students do not have the privilege to book conference rooms as individuals which makes access even more difficult. Many students enjoy studying on campus, and given that finals and boards are coming up, we want to try to secure as much study space as possible, without disrupting daily business at MCW. We believe allowing medical students off-hour access (after 5pm on weekdays and weekends) is a reasonable compromise.
