One in every five Australians has a mental illness or substance abuse disorder. And while we are world-leaders in treating heart disease, stroke and cancer and our life expectancy is one of the highest in the world, as a nation we're failing to improve our mental health. Mental health issues have a ripple effect on the wider community, not just the patient involved. That translates to many voters Minister! Please show some leadership.

As I have had all my family in at the public system. My brother in particular suffered and was basically fobbed off he had doctors that had no idea what was going on as one department doesn’t speak to the other. Then finally out into a nursing home at 56 to basically die!

Please Honourable Michael Ferguson fight to get Tasmanians the health system they deserve. You know just as well as I do that bedblock and a lack of integrated services are two major things costing lives and pressure doctors to modify what their true diagnosis/ treatment plan would be were there the resources available that people required. I've lost a family member as a result of the current system and I can't tell you what impact that has had on my family. It also has a major ongoing efffect on the economy and health system as multiple family members struggle to go to work and use up professional resources to treat our grief.

I've signed this because the health system is aboustly appalling and needs to be fixed urgently. My 6 year old son was taken to hospital via ambulance on sunday night after having a seizure. After he had already told the doctor's he couldn't see properly we were still told to get out because they needed his bed. What the hell. And not to mention they were concerned given the history of epilepsy and yet still kicked him out. So a referral was done to see a pediatrician and urgently and been told we have to wait 3 mths for his appointment not to mention the tests he now requires.

We need a coordinated mental health system. Not the shambles we have between GP's, phycologists, Govt Dept eg Centrelink and hospitals all working in isolation. People & families are suffering under the overwhelming burdeon. We need a coordinated treatment policy funded with sufficent docters, clinics and beds.
