• Since 2002, 38 British children have been abducted in Japan by a Japanese parent and none have been found. • On 5 April 2011, the High Court ordered the return of a British father and his two British sons to Japan against their wishes. • The older son has made allegations of child abuse against the mother, who suffers from serious mental illness. • The Japanese mother has never lived in the UK, but received legal aid to pursue the case she started, with seemingly no thorough background checks to see if she was eligible.
