Nagy előrálépés volt 1990 ben az Akadémiai Törvény. Sokat harcoltunk érte. Tiszta időutazás, ahogy megyünk vissza a múltba. Nem kéne.

MTA/HAS has always protected the academic freedom of the Hungarian research community and produced high quality scholarship through every political period. This tradition must continue!

Given the record of the Orban government and the stealth manner in which this legislation was introduced overnight, without any justification or organized consultation and public debate accompanying it, this change in how academic research institutes shall be funded definitely looks like an attempt at stifling independent
academic research. Even if the purpose was partly or entirely different, introducing such significant changes in this manner is harmful, carries the risk of error, moral hazard, destruction of trust, and damage to good governance practices. The Hungarian government should immediately withdraw this measure and start a proper consultation with stake holders about how it intends to go about living up to its oft-repeated commitment to increasing the level of public and private funding for academic research, which is currently at a shamefully low level given the country's level of development and proud academic traditions.

Academic independence is a cornerstone of a democracy and is good for the economy. Innovation comes from freedom not control.

Science produces valuable information. You do not want to get rid of it. Use as much as you want, but you can use only what exists.
