Sciences are there to benefit the people, especially of the country they are conducted in. But science's perspective is long, longer than most governments'. This is why history has taught us that autonomy of scientific institutions reaps the largest benefits for everyone in the longer term, including the state.
Hungary has a long history of excellent science, and, as a country, must guard against losing that due to a single government's short-term agenda.
