Thank you for not mandating euthanasia of dogs for bites. It is very sad that a boy was killed and two dogs were euthanized. The dogs had bitten before. Why didn’t the dog’s guardian train them? No children or animals should die because of stupid animal guardians. And please do not ban any breeds. It is not the breed, but how the guardian handles their dog. Please amend the bylaws to mandate all dogs must be spayed or neutered, and trained. Please provide free training for all dogs and guardians, and mandate that training. Please mandate all guardians of dogs who bite must provide special training for their dog. In some cases though, a dog should be removed from their guardian and brought to a sanctuary for retraining and rehabilitation.

I am in Edmonton and I truly wish this was enforced much more strongly. I have a reactive dog. People believe because their dog is friendly there is no issue. That is not the case. Mine has issues. He has been attacked 3 times and is now dog aggressive. If a off leash dog runs up to us not only is the other dog in danger so am I and the other owners. Yes, I muzzle my dog but when one dog reacts aggressively typically so will the approaching dog. People need to take these bylaws much more seriously. In my neighbourhood it is Very common to come across off leash dogs weekly. Not one, dogs! While I understand people who do not have reactive dogs will never understand there needs to be more education for pet owners.

This happens to me way too often where I get the comment, my dog is not aggressive. I don't care, my dog is dog reactive no matter nice yours is.

I try to be a responsible dog owner by taking my reactive dog to on lease areas only but I lose control of that when other people do not follow the rules and let their dogs off leash.

We encounter off leash dogs in on leash areas frequently. No issues up to now, but having small, reactive dogs it is concerning.

Totally support this petition! My home backs on to a neighbourhood park in Terwillegar Towne, but I can barely use it with my on-leash reactive dog, because other people use it as an illegal off leash area.

My Service Dog has his neck broken while heeling beside me by an off leash and loose German Shepherd that ran across the street to attack him. He was hit so hard that he was knocked out of his collar.
