We would like New Zealand to be the third country in the world to fully ban gay conversion therapy. This is a largely overlooked subject that has ruined many lives across the globe. People are forced to undergo "treatment" to change who they are to heterosexual (sexual attraction to the opposite gender), and cisgender (identifying as the gender which matches the body). Please take the time to sign if you believe that this is something New Zealand -- and the world as a whole -- should ban. The more people who take a stand against this, the more likely it is that the government will notice this issue.

There is no evidence "conversion" therapy works. All the major psychological associations and societies, all the major psychiatric associations and societies say it does not work and do not support it. It is dangerous and, as we have seen here in NZ in the past, leaves people suicidal.
What a great initiative! thank you for doing this! I'm the mom of a seven year old trans person and I support her. No fixing needed there.
Conversion therapy causes irreparable harm, and can even result in suicide (note the incredibly sad case of Leela Alcorn in Ohio, USA). There is no place in society for such a cruel and unfounded practice. Please abolish this in New Zealand for the health and safety of all the incredible gay and transgender individuals who life there!
I may not live in New Zealand but it would help many TBLG across the globe--including myself--to know there are more places accepting us.
Gay conversion therapy is offensive to a violent degree against something harmless as loving someone. The fact it is still legal is barbaric.

No therapy that denies a person's sense of self is a therapy - it is a type of brainwashing or torture, in this case one that has proven terrible effects on the psyche.
