They are two of the greatest and most inspiring teachers I've ever had. I never would have enjoyed art as much if it weren't for them.

Professor Bigelow and Professor Simmons contribute so much to the art department and to ALL of the students on campus, I can't imagine Evangel without them.

Mr. Bigelow was my drawing and printmakingteacher from 1998 til 2002. His Person and his way of teaching had so much impact in my life! He is one of the best teachers and kindest people i ever met. Evangel would lose so much with letting him go!!

I'm so grateful for my time at Evangel University, especially for my time in the art department. Evangel has the extreme privilege of being the only Assemblies of God university to offer an art department, something that I believe really sets apart our school from our sister schools. It is evident in our website design, photography around campus, and other PR elements of our school that artistic value and talent is definitely not absent on our campus. With that being said, I think it speaks volumes to prospective art students that 2/5 professors in our art department were cut. I believe this is not only extremely detrimental to our current art program, but that it will also handicap the art program in the future. I really believe the art program is something special that Evangel offers and so I strongly encourage the reconsideration of Mr. Bigelow and Mr. Simmons' contracts.

Both Evangel and its students would be at a great loss by downsizing its art department. The department is already limited in size and would suffer greatly with the loss of two professors. It would not suffer just from the downsize, but the loss of a great art teacher. Mr. Bigelow is a professor who truly cares for the students and takes the time to encourage and pour into their lives. Losing him would be a significant loss to Evangel and its students.
Another major concern of mine is that God has given us all different gifts and talents. What about the students that God has gifted in the arts, and are called to be artists? Should they not have the opportunity to learn how to use and cultivate the gifts and talents God has given them? I for one would like to learn how to use the gifts and talents God has given me for His glory, so others may come to know Him. How are art majors supposed to learn and grow within their field if the classes are not available, due to the loss of professors? I strongly encourage and pray that the renewal of Mr. Bigelow and Mr. Simmons contracts are reconsidered.

The Art Dept faculty are overtaxed as it is. Removing 2 professors will only cause more stress for the remaining teachers and lower both the availability and quality of the classes. Lane Simmons is the only photography professor; remove him and an entire avenue of art will be virtually cut off. David Bigelow is not only a wonderful and encouraging professor (qualities extremely important for an art teacher), but he consistently and effectively connect art and the Chritian faith and lifestyle. I highly recommend reevaluating dismissing these two faculty members.
