Final supporters
As part of Evangel's vision for increased financial strength twelve faculty and staff contracts will not be renewed in Fall 2016. Among the twelve are two Art Professors, Professor David Bigelow and Professor Lane Simmons. As art majors, friends of the art department, and alum of Evangel we are disheartened by the decision to take not one but two of our beloved professors.
As result of the announcement, we are concerned for the future of our department and the future Art students at Evangel. Under section four of our Student Bill of Rights we are peacefully petitioning a reconsideration of the decision process that caused a non-renewal of both Professor Bigelow and Professor Simmons' contracts.
It is our hope that the signatures on this petition will represent the immense impact that Professor Bigelow and Professor Simmons' instructions have had on our lives, our friend's lives, and our children's lives. We hope that each name will honor their legacy at Evangel and show our concern for an Art department that does not have them as professors.

I really never expected to see this kind of energy so quickly and honestly I have been staring at the screen for an hour just blown away by how much everyone cares about Bigelow and Simmons. It is just so surreal to see so many names pop up because it really proves how deep the impact of their teaching goes and I am just so grateful for every single person who took the time to speak up for this department.

Professor Bigelow is an integral part of the Visual Arts Department. Losing him would greatly undermine the value and worth of Visual Arts education at Evangel. Even with the excellent faculty left–who would be stretched thin–the department and students would suffer. David is a passionate educator who invests himself deeply in the lives of his students.
David Bigelow was one of most integral parts of my college education. He was and continues to be a very influential person y walk as a Christian artist. It would be a shame for incoming art students to not have the opportunity to be able to be taught by such an impactful person. I know that I am blessed an honored to have had the opportunity. I pray that the decision to not renew his contract is reconsidered.
David was an exceptional educator -- his presence at the school is one of the things I look back on with fondest of memories, when I think of my time at EU. David is the type of person who makes a genuine contribution to his students' lives. We are still in contact to this day. David brings more to the EU Fine Arts program than the school can realistically afford to lose. His worth to the school cannot be underestimated. These professors should certainly be considered for re-signing.
These men have had an enormous, positive influence on my son (student) and have invested personally in him. These are the type of professors you keep on staff.
Losing these two professors would be detrimental to the Art Department at Evangel, without them we could potentially lose photography, watercolor, fibers, drawing 1, and all of our printmaking courses. All that aside, the great men that are being released are highly influential. Without them I would not have considered the department and would not have as clearly seen what a passion for my area of study looks like.
Professor Simmons is currently teaching my Intro to Photography class and I have already learned so much about how to unlock my creativity and be intentional about the subjects and content of what I create. He is a great instructor and brings a lot of practical teaching and tips from his professional career as a photographer. His place in the art department is important because he highly values the creativity and necessity of both film and digital photography. Photography is more than a means of marketing and promotion; it is an art form and holds an important place in society and history, a conviction that Professor Simmons reminds his students of regularly. I would highly recommend that Lane Simmons would remain at Evangel and continue to inspire and equip more and more students that learn under his teaching.

I've had both these professors in classes starting Freshman year all the way up to Senior year. The amazing thing about these two ordinary individuals is their extra ordinary influence! I've been able to just hang out with them in their classes and some of the greatest career and spiritual advice i have received have been spoken into me by Prof. Bigelow and Prof Simmons.
