Take it Slow on Lakemans

I live on the corner of county and Lakemans and my kids take the bus stop from there as well as bike and walk to horse lessons. Often people do not slow down or move over and I agree- it is scary!

I hope public officials and law enforcement will look at the petition and comments and take some action to avoid a needless tragedy from speeding drivers on Lakemans Lane. As a resident of Lakemans Lane I have seen too many speeding cars, some zipping by just seconds after walkers and schoolchildren are on the road. I would suggest placing speed bumps about 100 feet in from the entrances from Route 133 and IA along with signage with the speed limit and also one saying CAUTION: DRIVE SLOWLY--CHILDREN PLAYING.

As a resident on Lakemans Lane since 1987, I have seen an increasing number of "cut through" speeding cars in recent years and months. I would suggest that speed limit signs be posted at 133 and 1A and in the non-winter months having occasional use of the electronic speed limit sign which seemed to have an effect. Even during last weekend with snow on the road, cut through traffic was speeding down the road. Another possible but DRASTIC solution might be to close one end of Lakemans Lane to traffic. Just think of how peaceful our road would be! Okay that was a joke.

This is a long time coming. Lakemans does not need to be a dangerous lane.

Slow the traffic down before something serios happens. My mail box has bee hit twice.

My wife and I regularly walk and very often with dogs along lake mans lane. Because so many people use this road as a cut through they are always going too fast. One incident that occurred with my wife in I this past summer highlights several concerns. We were walking our dog on Lakemans, at the bend just before Fellows road, when we heard a Jeep approaching from our backs, at a higher than normal speed. As the Jeep passed us my wife, on the passenger side of the Jeep, told them to slow down. The Jeep brake lights went on, it came to a stop, the driver door flung open, and the driver began to emerge. As he was almost out of the Jeep he noticed me on the same side of the road, hopped back into the Jeep and sped off. What will it take, a child getting hit, someone being assaulted for a more permanent solution to the speeding on this road. Just as everyone has the right to drive on roads so do the residents of the street have the right to use the street safely and not fear getting hit. Perhaps a camera with a speed component can be used to take a pic of the license plate and a speeding ticket be issued. Failure to pay means no license, registration or insurance renewals until payment is made. Seems to work for Mass DOT.... Just a thought...

Unfortunately, I think the only realistic solution to this is 1) at least 2 permanent radar speed signs indicating speed (big bucks) or 2) speed bumps like they put on Kimball Rd and other places. Most of the people speeding do not live on Lakemans but are using as pass through. They do not have a care. A police cruiser for a week or two or temp sign, is just that - a temporary solution.

I am constantly worried about my toddler playing in the yard, as people are always speeding. Thank you!

I regularly walk my dog and go out with my 18 month old daughter for walks down Lakemans and cars often drive by at excessive speeds well above the speed limit and don't even slow down in the slightest. I would welcome the town taking this seriously and addressing the situation before someone gets seriously hurt.

Please just slow down. Some drivers have no concern for those walking.

Often drivers, probably transiting between 1A and 133, travel on Lakemans Lane at excessive and dangerous speeds. Anything that could be done to prevent this practice should be encouraged.

My sister usually has to stand on the street to let me know I can back out of her driveway when I go to visit. Not sure what everyone's rush is it's a beautiful road, slow down and enjoy the ride.

I take my life in my hands just trying to go to my mail box...

Many drivers use our road as a short cut between 133 and 1A. Especially during the AM and PM commuter hours, they speed through with no regard for pedestrians. Many adults and children walk, bike, and, ride horses down our road because it's a beautiful. Drivers in a hurry need to stay on the main road.

All too often I observe motorists who are distracted + speeding making for a deadly combination.

Good luck Amanda. Unfortunately it will take a tragedy to take place before anything will change. Whether it be a child run over or someone backing out of their driveway and killed. I have left messages with Chief Nickas and never received a phone call back. The traffic radar trailer is only a stop gap measure and slows down the cars for about a week. I believe it is really used to have the neighborhood citizens stop complaining. The only way people will slow down is when they are pulled over (like on Linebrook Rd and Green St) and given a warning or citation. The police will not tell you this, but they don't have the resources or time to do traffic control. They are to busy dealing with the ugly incidents of humanity that they clean up every day. What they will tell you is, it is your neighbors doing the speeding and they really aren't doing fifty mph. The painfulness of it all is when that speeding offender traveling down our eighteen foot wide cut through lane with seven blind corners and no sidewalks commits that tragedy, they will get a speeding ticket then. Very dangerous seeing so many cars go so fast down our street. Lots of kids in the neighborhood and many people walking. Please help slow them down!

This is a problem that we can't enjoy our street.

We have had the radar machine here once or twice and I saw folks doing 37, 40, and the like. We have nearly nearly 20 kids living along this road that I know of... please help us slow 'em down!
