The silence from the city officials is heavy but it only proves how necessary this work remains. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle yet I will keep showing up because the town square needs to belong to all of us.

This statue represents not only racism but the hate-filled division amongst our country during the civil war. For those who claim to be patriots, why would they want to honor those Americans who rebelled against the country they claim to love so much? Fly your American flag proudly but when you display the confederate flag you are perpetuating the division. You can’t stand for both.
Disgraceful that Graham has such a deep cult-like culture of "gotta protect mah statue". It speaks negative volumes about the town that such a statue funded by the racially motivated D.A.R just steps from where the KKK hanged Wyatt Outlaw has lasted so long. We are here to stay and will see it removed one day, die mad about it.
I say replace it with someone the entire city of Graham can be proud of. Like Wyatt Outlaw!
We must not continue to glorify white supremacy. We must call the confederacy what it was, treason. Just because our ancestors fought for slavery does not mean we must continue to celebrate their cause. Signed, a North Carolinian born and bred
This statue is a representation of the hatred and ignorance this country was founded upon. If people of color don't feel comfortable in Graham because of this statue it should have been taken down decades ago!

There are SO many other and more welcoming symbols of southern heritage than these monuments! Let’s focus more on the hospitality and kindness that defines southern culture instead of glorifying and praising the incredibly violent and racist history we have.
