2-factor authentication is a good idea in principle, terrible idea in practice - especially for a university setting with tens of thousands of students and employees.

I lost my phone and fortunately found after 2 days. I couldn't access scholar, canvas or hokie spa. The only way to overcome the problem was to call the helpline. How could I?

What is the plan of action to get this petition to Virginia Tech's attention? Are you taking this up with an authority? This is a great petition!

The 2-factor system is such a hassle. I wish I would have never signed up for it. I hate having to constantly pull out my phone and accept the invitation. It's even worse when you are using only your phone and you have to exit out of the browser, go to the app, accept the invitation, and then go back to the browser. I understand the idea of protection but it's unnecessary. A security question would have sufficed.

As much as I fear the day when someone can access my scholar account and submit a series of fart noises instead of my actual homework, I am much, much more afraid of having to use 2-factor authentication. This is worse than when VTech raises the price of the salad bar every year. $6.50 per pound of lettuce at Owens? Seriously?

I absolutely hate this login method. Why should I have to have access to my phone any time I need to log into scholar????

Students without a smartphone or tablet have no discrete method for authentication. Additionally, the implementation of "trusted devices" that would not require repeated authentication would make the process more tenable.
