The teachers and staff in District 104 deserve my support. The wonderful work they do on a daily basis should not go on unappreciated!

I fully support the teachers and their union. In my opinion, unions are the last bastion of hope for our country's shrinking middle class.

While a contract is important, let's keep in mind that the belt MUST be tightened in this challenging economic times by all of us. The UNION is asking for an unacceptable raise in pay (across the board), a continued 100% taxpayer contribution for both Healthcare and Pension plans (meaning teachers do not contribute anything towards their own pensions and healthcare)...the cost they CLAIM to pay is subsidized and reimbursed by the local taxpayers. The National level of employee/teacher contributions to their own pensions and healthcare is 40%, in Illinois it is at zero, the taxpayers pay the employee portion of the contributions. While, NO ONE disagrees that teachers are the lifeline for education and deserve to be compensated fairly, they should strongly consider a SHORT term contract that also meets the economic survival of the school district and the community. THIS INCLUDES Administrator pay and contracts which makes up a large portion of the budget and also includes zero contributions towards pensions and healthcare. My two cents worth...

My daughter is a kindergarten student at Central. We adore her teacher and the staff at this school! I volunteer at the school each week and I am always beyond impressed with the attitudes, love for students, and professionalism that the staff at central displays. The teachers at this school take care of our children every day. It is time for us to take care of our teachers!

Teachers are the unsung heroes of our society. We entrust these valuable individuals with our precious children for a majority of their lives, in teaching and guiding them. The compensation levels for all teachers need a drastic overhaul. But until that happens, administrators need to find a way to compensate teachers equitably. Consider the bottom line needs of each side, and know that the children are the ones that suffer in the end if you stay at odds. Find a way; just find a way.

As a fellow teacher, I applaud these amazing professionals for their dedication and compassion for their students, even when those that are supposed to take care of them are not doing their part. They are extraordinary people and true heroes. Let's spread the word and give them all the love and support we can! :)
