Ever since we arrived on campus, we have heard talk about improving Dartmouth. We have an opportunity to make a change to do just that. Every summer, Sophomores battle to be named the best at our school's game. It's tradition.
Currently, the rules are:
-All games are tree
-No shirking (aka no tossing cups or redistributing)
-1 boot for the entire tourney
These rules not only promote an unhealthy level of consumption, but it also exclude many people from participation. Whether it be a medical reason, an issue of tolerance level, or simply choice, the current rules prevent many individuals who would otherwise compete to represent their house in the tournament from doing so.
The tournament also excludes a large group of individuals: those who are unaffiliated. There have been countless discussions over the exclusivity of the Greek system. Let's use this as an opportunity to change that.
Proposed Changes to Rules:
-All games are tree

-You choose what's in your cups (H2O, K.S., or some of each) at the start of each game
-Booting due to over consumption is strongly discouraged (if you have the flu or food poisoning it's OK)
AND
-A pre-tournament selection round will be held to decide upon the teams to represent the unaffiliated members of our community.
Now you may be thinking that by choosing what is in your cups, those who pick water will have an advantage. Perhaps this is true. But this tournament should be about your skill, not your tolerance level. With these new changes, YOU consume what YOU want so YOU play YOUR best game and let everyone else do the same.
