Drexel University’s Resident Living Office should change the way guests are required to be signed into the residence halls. The process of signing in guests is time consuming. The form requires multiple pieces of information, and it also tends to be time consuming to wait around for the sign-in book to be available especially on the weekends when many people are being signed in. Even if the guest will only be in the building for three minutes, the resident is still responsible for filling out the form that takes just as much time. Also, when signing out visitors you have go back through the entire book in entries to find where you signed them in, just to record the time they’re signed out. In order to solve this problem, Drexel should set up a digital ID scanner to keep track of who’s in the building, subsequently eliminating the hand written sign in book. This method is proven to be much safer and less able to be contaminated by faulty information entered by residents. This faster method is more conveniently kept on record by the university. As well as an electronic method to scan IDs and keep information on record, guest passes should be utilized at Drexel in order to eliminate the need to sign guests in and out of the residence halls during outings.
