Summary.

We ask the FFA, Football NSW, Sutherland Shire Council, the Sutherland Shire Football Association and Sutherland Sharks to actively work together to introduce an additional Shire based option for representative football in the NSW Super League or NSW State League.

Details

Sutherland Shire has one of the largest Football Associations in Australia but it only offers one pathway for Youth and Seniors to representative football within Football NSW competitions. I.E. Premier League, Super League. As a comparison to the Shire's 1 club, the St George and Canterbury districts are blessed with 6 club options for representative football all within a relatively short distance of that area.

For local youth players this means that only 16 players in each age group (13 to 18) have the opportunity to play representative football in the Shire. The remaining players wanting to play representative football are forced to play and travel some distances outside of the shire to join other clubs. While there are parents with the time and means to transport their players to the other clubs; research has shown that the travel time to clubs outside of the shire is a major factor in players not pursuing representative football.

We ask the FFA, Football NSW, Sutherland Shire Council, the Sutherland Shire Football Association and Sutherland Sharks to actively work together to introduce an additional Shire based option for representative football in the NSW Super League or NSW State League.
