We demand the Concordia administration to take an active roll in incorporating accessible, sustainability-related content into the curriculum at Concordia University. We believe that the university has the responsibility to prepare students to be responsible citizens and to prepare future graduates with sustainable practices that they may use in the face of social, environmental and economic issues.

The Sustainable Curriculum Project has been working to quantify the amount of sustainability-related content that is currently being taught at the undergraduate level. Over the summer of 2013, we looked at the sustainability content of courses offered throughout the 27 departments in the faculty of Arts and Science.

Our research shows that only 109 out of 1245 (8.8%) courses offered in Arts and Science in the 2012/2013 school year featured some sustainability content.

Furthermore, we found that courses scoring the highest in sustainability content tend to be clustered at the 200- and 400-levels. Courses with the greatest coverage of sustainability content are generally inaccessible to students from outside of particular academic programs or streams.
