Surfside Beach Chair Ordinance - 8/9/22 vote
Dear Mayor and Commissioners,
On Tuesday August 9th you will be voting on a new ordinance for Beach Chairs.
The current ordinance is unreasonable. Any person, regardless of if they live in Surfside or not can come to the beach with their personal chairs and coolers and plunk them down wherever they want, they can even stay until dark should they wish. However, if you want to have Beach Chair service provided whereby someone sets up a chair, etc. for you, the current ordinance limits an address to 5 preset unoccupied chairs and restricts to a maximum of 45 chairs to be occupied. In addition, the ordinance limits the hours that this service can be provided, giving nonresidents more freedom than residents. These limitations are hurting the buildings that want to offer beach services to their residents.
We urge you to allow more flexibility on the amount of preset and total chairs to something more reasonable.
The people who live on the beach should have the right to have beach chair service provided that is not unfairly restricted.
Respectfully
