The
Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (HB175) will grant equal rights and protections of marriage to same-sex couples in Maryland.
Freshman Delegate Sam Arora promised to co-sponsor this legislation when he was a candidate in 2010, stating that,
"it is simply a matter of equal rights under the law." We couldn't agree more! We were glad to see that on January 25th he was going to keep that promise, tweeting:
However, on March 1st Del, Arora reneged on this promise when he unexpectedly pulled his support from the legislation without explanation. On March 3rd he stated that, "
This bill deserves an up-or-down vote, so I'm voting to send it to the floor." But, this falls way short of the support and enthusiasm he offered on the campaign trail.
Join us in urging Del. Arora to keep his campaign promise to support the Civil Marriage Protection Act.
Now is the time to support Maryland families by ending marriage discrimination.
