Prescriptive authority for appropriately trained psychologists works. Please allow this to happen in Washington.

In this time of major upheaval and a documented epidemic of mental health disorders impacting Washington’s citizens- especially underserved communities - nothing is more important than expanding the availability of comprehensive mental health care.

A psychologist prescribing medication after in person sessions seems less risky than a doctor prescribing medicine after a tele health visit

I am licensed in New Mexico as a prescribing psychologist. I was issued a license in 2005, NM RXP PSY-003, and I have been prescribing here for 17 years. I have provided services in settings to include Federally Qualified Health Care Center, Community Mental Health, as well as Outpatient and Inpatient Rural Hospital Behavioral Health. Prescribing Psychologists in New Mexico have made significant contributions in public service settings and providing services to underserved populations. I am sure this will also occur in Washington State when prescriptive authority for psychologists with advanced and specialized training in clinical psychopharmacology is enacted.
Respectfully,
Thomas Thompson, PhD, MP, ABN, ABMP

This is imperative to the mental health crisis in WA. There is no reason this should not pass.

Similar legislation in NM and 5 other states has vastly improved access to care. Colorado legislators passed similar legislation this year with almost total unanimous voting.

Prescribing psychologists provide much needed psychiatric access to patients who might not otherwise receive treatment. What a boon to Washington this would be! This psychologist would be happy to be a prescriber in WA.

Prescribing psychologists can fill an essential need due to a psychiatric shortage in Washington and across the country.

Psychologists with additional training do this in several other states now, do it safely, and fill a crucial need in those states easing availability of, and access to, comprehensive mental health care. It is clear Washington would benefit as well.

I would be delighted to serve Washingtonians as a prescribing psychologist. I see the value and importance of this legislation and the opportunities it would mean for access and high quality patient care.

By supporting HB-1041, we can help address the issue of a lack of psychiatric prescribers head-on, ensuring that more Washington residents receive the timely and effective care they deserve.
