We need to be leaders in emphasizing the importance of long vs short term thinking to improve the health of ourselves, our communities and our planet.

Greta Thunberg 2019 : "This is all wrong. I shouldn't be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!
"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I'm one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you! Yes. I'm in full support of this petition below.

Please support sustainability in the large and small decisions to be made in designing the West Campus District. Not to do so, in this day and age, is short-sited at minimum. We all need to be looking to the larger picture. Thank you.

We have some of the best ecological minds in the world on staff at UW, but all around campus I see poor planning & neglect with regards to campus natural areas. UW can do better to manage campus using best ecological management practices supported by science. Apply fire to fire dependent plant communities, clear out invasive brush and trees, and reduce mowed grass areas.

There is really no excuse to not follow net-zero building practices and other well-established sustainability principles in designing all future landscape development projects for the UW-Madison campus

University buildings are investments for the future. This is true both for their cost to operate and for their contribution to the beauty of the West campus. If they are created with sensitivity to the natural beauty of those locations and to environmental standards that may seem ambitious today but will increasingly become regarded as mandatory for responsible building then UW will benefit from goodwill from students, community members and in national reputation.
I support sustainable development of the area.
