Dear Dr. Ma and Tri-City Medical Center District,

We, the undersigned security officers of Tri-City Medical Center, write to formally notify you that a strong majority of us have chosen to join our coworkers in unionizing with SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW). As of today, a clear majority our team have signed membership cards in support of union representation.

On September 12, 2025, we submitted our petition to Tri-City Medical Center Employee Relations. Per the established timeline, a response was due within 10 days (by September 22, 2025). As of today, no response has been provided by the district. We are deeply concerned by this silence and urge the hospital to respect our democratic choice without unnecessary delay.

Our decision to unionize reflects a deep commitment to strengthening our workplace, improving patient safety, and ensuring fairness and stability during this critical period of transition. With the upcoming shift to Sharp HealthCare management in May 2026, it is especially important that our voices are heard and respected so that the security department is not left behind or overlooked in the process.

We believe union representation will:

1) Protect our roles and working conditions during the transition, ensuring continuity of services without disruption.

2) Provide us with a voice at the table in decisions that directly affect our safety, schedules, training, and responsibilities.

3) Align us with the rest of our Tri-City coworkers who are already represented by SEIU-UHW, building unity across the hospital workforce and preventing divisions between departments.

4) Strengthen patient and staff safety, as we will be better positioned to advocate for the staffing, resources, and support we need to carry out our duties effectively.

We ask that you recognize our union and respect our right to organize freely and without interference. We are proud of the work we do to safeguard Tri-City Medical Center and its community, and we believe joining SEIU-UHW is the best path forward to ensure fairness, equity, and security for both staff and patients.

We look forward to your acknowledgment of our majority choice and your commitment to working collaboratively with us and SEIU-UHW representatives as we move through this process.

Sincerely,

Tri-City Security Officers, SEIU-UHW Members and Allied TCMC Staff
