I went to Waltham High in 1970's. I now work for the Waltham Public School system. It is time for a new building. The students and teachers deserve this.

The school is tired and is very evident when traveling to other schools for sporting events. Our children moved from the new elementary schools that reflect a contemporary vision of places for learning into the antiquated Middle and High School. The environment in which a young mind grows is equally important to the subject matter, they must be presented hand in hand. What better use of tax dollars than to celebrate the education of our youth, our future.

Can't believe we are at the point where we need a petition for this. This needs to happen ASAP. Aside from it being exactly the right thing to do; remaining competitive with other cities has been said to be a priority by the leadership in this city. A proper school system is a must in order to do so.

We need to invest in our children and their education, all the way through high school. Build our students a new high school and THEN renovate the old one as an elementary or middle school; we are going to need it soon. We've already had to redistrict the elementary school because they are "busting at the seams."

As a parent, educator and administrator for the Waltham Public Schools, I urge you to support the New School Building Project. The process involved in writing the Educational Profile and Vision started with the Principal and program directors over two years ago. The collective time, energy and effort put into this process got us invited in to the MSBA process and ultimately lead to where we are today. The subsequent committees that have been formed both at the school level and the community level have worked tirelessly to create a vision and plan for a top notch 21st century learning experience for our students. This plan needs to be implemented in a new school building with the appropriate physical learning spaces (including science labs, maker spaces, collaboration spaces and CVTE spaces) and technology that a renovated building cannot provide. I urge you to support this project!

I was fortunate to grow up in Newton, where the city put education first. I received a wonderful education with a tremendous reputation, which helped me get into a great college. I would like the same for my child. I worry that Waltham's priorities aren't what I value. It's time for our city officials to support the evolution of the city. You own this to our kids.

It would be a devastating mistake for our city councilors to not support the high school building project. Even if constituents do not have students who will attend the new school, its impact on our community goes well beyond to affect our tax base, real estate values, and more. I hope all voters will pay close attention to the actions of their elected officials on this issue.

I was part of the superintendent's educational planning group last year and am fully on board with the new educational plan.
I support the high school building committee and the plans that are being introduced to build a new high school. It is so important to the future of all the students in Waltham's public schools to have this new plan in place and a space for them to learn and receive a 21st century education.
Personally, I have a 7th grader (plus a fifth grader). Best case scenario is that he will have three years at the current high school and one year at a new high school. I think the worst case is that he will attend the current high school while it is being renovated. I can't imagine how he would thrive in that setting.

I am proud to say that I have had 2 very successful graduates from WHS and currently have a Sophomore there and a 6th grader! The new high school is way overdue! Our kids need this! Please support the school building committee and the school committee! This is way too important for our kids and our community!

My son is a freshman at WHS, and my daughter in 4th grade. I very much hope she will be able to have an up-to-date and modern high school. It's been a tough transition for my son to be basically going backwards with regards to facilities in each new school level.
